Trail News: Due to the trail between the Meyer Rd. and the Sweeney Rd. (On the way to Highmarket), many hours were spent trying to find an alternate route. Maps were studied, phone calls made and people talked to, looking for a solution. With the help of West Leyden Town Board, we will be able to continue on the Meyer Rd. to the junction Rd., and then to Sweeney Rd., down to the Seelman Truck Trail. Many thanks go to the town of West Turin Board for their concern and help in solving this problem. We will need the cooperation of snowmobilers who use this trail to follow speed limits and to watch for the groomer and the town snow plows, particular on the Junction Rd., which is a single lane plowed road, for local traffic in the winter months. Remember - a groomer and snowplows always have the right of way!!!!
There have been a few minor changes in the trails through West Leyden. Please watch for signs.
To make for safer trails, brushing has been done, trees cut and many stumps have been removed. Thanks to all the guys who worked on this
We were not successful in our bid for the TEA.21 grant. thanks again to Jim Allen and Arlene Walston for their work on the grant. The 1998 Groomer was overhauled and is ready to go
2006-07 is the year for the two-tier system to become a law. Registrants can belong to a club and pay$45 for sled registration - OR - Don't join a club and pay $100 per sled. Belonging to a club then becomes more economical. Hopefully more info will follow in the Spring Newsletter.
Remember the "Adopt A Trail Plan"? Please consider this and help out. All you need to do is carry a pair of snipers and cut brush, pick up litter, limbs and other obstructions. This way... Everyone becomes a volunteer. to help keep the trails safe.
Memberships For The 2005-2006 Season
Memberships are due for the 2005-2006 season. An application is enclosed for your convenience. Please return it with your payment and self-addressed stamped envelope and we will send you your membership. Your Dues are necessary to keep the trails open and safely maintained.
We would like to remind everyone accessing our trail system, to please respect the land you are traveling over. The Southern Tug Hill Landowners allow us to utilize their private property for our recreation use. For many of them, this farmland is there livelihood and you may be traveling over crops. Signs are posted to reserve certain areas and ensure safety. PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAILS!
Starting in December, S.T.H.S.R. monthly meetings will be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m., at the Milk Plant Tavern. We welcome and encourage all members to attend.
Thanks to the new owners, Red and Dave of the West Leyden Hotel for inviting us to have our September, October and November meetings there. We wish them much success with their new business.
